Feeding Ehretia: Fertilizer and Sweet Soil Explained
By Muhammad Hamza · Published · Updated

Two words come up in every Ehretia care routine: sweet soil and fertilizer. Together they give a new plant a good start.
What is sweet soil?
Sweet soil is sweet soil (fresh, low-salt garden soil mixed with compost). We recommend it because it drains well and does not carry the salt that some desert soil does. Heavy soil that holds water is the thing to avoid.
When to add fertilizer
Add fertilizer at planting. The first-two-weeks routine is: plant in sweet soil, add fertilizer, water well for two days, then go back to normal watering. Read the full steps in planting your Ehretia.
Choosing a fertilizer
Use a general fertilizer made for shrubs and follow the amount on the label. More is not better. If you are unsure which one to buy, message us on WhatsApp and we will point you in the right direction.
Pots and planters
- Use a pot or planter with drainage holes.
- Fill it with sweet soil, not plain sand or heavy clay.
- Water by the soil check in our watering guide.
